I had a crazy time last weekend for the kick-off of Festivall. In Charleston, WV, Festivall takes a cue from Carnival and does something. It used to be the Sternwheel Regatta where there was in fact no sternwheelers or regattas by the time they shut it down. I think Festivall is the far better choice. A complete reversal from a city where restaurants close at four and feral hobos rule the streets to there are so many things going on that’s impossible to attend them all and feral hobos rule the streets.
I got to open a booth during the Art on a Stick event. The art yard sale that takes place after the art parade. You see, the theme of Festivall is art. So there are magicians and hypnotists all up in this bitch! Well, clowns on stilts and harlequins (a type of clown), mostly. Fortunately, no juggalos as of yet.
I’d like to thank Rachel and Amy for all their help in making and setting up the booth. My booth was gorgeous and painstakingly put together. It’s too bad that the wind set to dismantle it. While I thought that people had actually camped out for the event these were just the aforementioned hobos still in the park. Despite a terrible turnout due to the electricity for the live music being two hours late, I broke even and then some. Not only that, but I actually SOLD OUT OF MY BOOK.
Even my doppelganger (or his I’m not sure how this works) Rudy Panucci picked one up. Don’t worry. I’ll have more of these soon. And of course, this doesn’t even slow down ordering from here on the site.
I’d like thank everyone that came by and said hi. If you missed me this weekend you still have a chance to see my artwork up in both Taylor Books and the Art Emporium during Art Walk this Thursday from 5pm to 8pm. If you show up to just one Art Walk, the Festivall Art Walk is definitely the one. I hope to see you there. I’ll have my new phone with me so I can finally finish this Art Walk map!
